Prayer is an essential tool for healing and is an excellent source of comfort, courage, and strength for those who are suffering. During times of illness, disease, or a life challenge, nothing is more important than to offer prayer and to join with others in assurance of these prayers.
In addition to prayer, the Saints protect us against harm, help strengthen our faith, and offer spiritual guidance and healing. They are our models of prayer and their intercession helps present powerful prayers of healing to God on our behalf.

Saint Teresa was born in Avila, Spain in 1515. At age 12, her mother died and her father placed her in a convent. At age 18, she decided to enter the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation and made her profession in 1536.
During this time Teresa had a number of serious illnesses, including debilitating headaches, paralysis, and a coma. She was miraculously cured through Saint Joseph and began to see suffering in the light of the Cross.
Conditions at the convent inspired Teresa to reform her order. Despite many setbacks, she succeeded in establishing the Reform of the Discalced Carmelites. She established 32 monasteries, 17 of which were convents of nuns. Saint Teresa’s greatest legacy is her collection of writings, which have made a significant contribution to learning in the Church.
She died in 1582, was canonized in 1622, and was named the first woman Doctor of the Church in 1970.
Saint Teresa of Avila is recognized today as the patroness of those suffering from headaches or migraines. Her feast day is October 15th.
